My Learning Fall and Rise

The first day of school, I had been used to introductions and teachers talking all period about the plans for the school year. I was tired of the pain I was feeling and tried to ignore it so bad I ended up ignoring what the teachers were saying. Dr Preston had been talking about being a open source classroom or anything old skool textbook, paper and pen. I couldn’t concentrate. I was bouncing in my seat, anxiously. I didn’t wanna be here. As soon as he finished talked I ran out of the class room, anxious to puke my guts out hoping I would feel a lot better. I didn’t. As I walked back into the class, I realized I didn’t have an option with our school year choices. I didn’t have internet at home I knew it was going to be hard getting work done that wasn’t paper pencil. Even still I continued, I stayed in the class trying to finish as much posts as I  could, leaving the rest for the next day. But there was never enough time during class. I would go to the public library to steal so...

Interview

Today I had an interview. I'm excited to learn about your feedback.

First Impression

November 4 My impression on self reliance is that this essay begins with a Latin intro. Which is the roots of any love language i just found out, this left a blank question in my head. why was there Latin and what does it mean. The intro is captivating. It’s got a different language that if you don’t understand you’ll google and you’ll already be doing too much work not to read on. This begins talking about man as if there was no women when this was made. Times have changed now and more women are making impacts then the powerful men that think they can do anything.

Story of my life

October 17 I was 4 years old and was growing a leg cutting tumor on the left side of my pelvic bone. Had a doctor not figured this out I wouldn’t not had my legs with me today. I went into surgery that week and later had to go back to the hospital because I fractured my skinny 4 year old ankles.

The Art of hosting good conversations online

October 10 Make connections with people. Understand what they’re trying to say. Be interested in the conversation. Have positive feedback. Have fun don’t be too serious. Experiment. Avoid taking sides. Welcome people. Pose questions.

Same Words Different People

October 10 Me and my partner have similar understandings. She associates words to thing so they can help her remember while I tend to just memorize the definitions. Granted in a week both of us will forget what we learned.

The Value of My Time

October 9 I will be focusing on my school work and not letting anything small distract me. This will help me get back on track to my school work and not have to fall behind.

How I Read

October 8 The Mona Lisa was made with strokes of the brush to where you can’t tell where one stroke end the the other one starts. Amateurs love what they do. They don’t get paid for what they do. Professionals do even if they do the same thing. Don’t just read but understand. Get lost in the story Fall in love with the plot.

Letter to Member

October 3 Dear Mentor,         Hello my name is Dayanira. I’m a junior in Santa Maria high school, almost to the end. Although I still have a year to change plans I’m very confused. I’m stuck between following in my sisters footsteps and disappearing, not be heard of and not coming back or staying someone close, where I can come for the weekends or vacations car driving weeks. I can still see the kids I helped raise grow up and they won’t forget my name or if they even have a sister. But it’s it’s good for me then that shouldn’t matter right? I need help I’m still confused. With Respect, Dayanira A

How to get along online

October 16 1: be open minded 2: Have constructive criticism 3: contribute to the conversation and let it flow. Three things that should help you keep conversations online, they’re not in the order you should follow me then in but they’re good.

Literature analysis #2

October 2 The story   Fahrenheit 451   is a scientific novel by Ray Bradbury, the novel shows a futuristic dystopia and opens some parallels between our world and theirs. The novel explores the ideas of censorship and how much it affects our everyday life  Anyone can wonder and ask about what they are curious about. In the novel, the citizens aren’t allowed to know anything unless they’re told. The character Mildred is an example of this, she is only known to what she is told. Mildred is only attached to the characters on her tv screen and is unaware of her surroundings. In the book,   we are taught that there is no speed limit, but drivers aren’t allowed to drive slow.  The more you read the more knowledge you receive even if it isn’t much. By banning the books, the characters in the story were limited to what occurred and what is occurring.  We are not as limited, as a society, about the things going on around us.

First impression of a dream

September 30 My impression on this poem was captivating. I can only understand so much from what Alan is trying to say. Is he trying to grasp the dream, making sure that it is only a dream and nothing more? I can’t see him nodding his head to these theories but I would love to know what he is trying to tell me instead of taking this poem and ruining its meaning.

Hawthorne and Poe on Dreams

September  30 Both of these Stories can be connected though perceiving that not everything is what it seems. A dream is only so nice and brown had such purity that in the end we’re both not what they seemed. It’s lost and hopeless. It’s only a dream, you can not touch it or change it for it is only a dream.

My thesis statement

September 25 When you have a prompt to a story it is easier to follow and know what the person that assigned this is looking for. When it’s free and it’s a thing you want to write in your own it’s whatever you want it to be. You get to decide what the prompt is and where you’re going to go with this essay.

Having the Time of my Life

September 18 When you understand how much time you put into where you really get a feel of where all your time investment is going. It can help you focus on the little things. Things where you need to spend more time in. You could be having dinner with the people you live with instead of giving all that time to your phone. You can give your time to someone who looks like they need it instead of keeping it to yourself.

The medium is the message

September 17 Email is used when requested. Write a card to someone in an envelope which they will  read. Someone taking time to write it down you can see the ups and lows of their hand writing and how much effort they put into it. Texts are quick and shouldn’t be used for something important. Spelling and grammar are important in a email.

So this guy goes for a walk

October 17 My first impression on young good man brown was how pure and innocent the love he had for his wife. And the sweet innocent partings they shared. Then it goes mysteriously into a forest where he meets an old man and a talking serpent stick. These can be portrayed as the devil and I’m worried to what’s going to happen to this good man.

For the WIn

September 13 My notebook is up to date and I’m proud. My posts may not be the best but up to September 13 they’re all done with the exception of videos.

I ain't got time for this

September 12 My habits are very toxic traits of myself. I put everything last minute letting the pressure of finishing things quick get to me. This post is an example, it was to be published Sept 12. It is now November 30. I’m pressuring myself to finish all these posts

The Earth on Turtles back

September 10 My first impression on this story was that it’s a story about how the earth was created. These animals really saved this woman that’s kind will kill at these animals. These are actual stories chief tell the children of the tribe. This is how kids believe the earth was made and it makes sense as a story should. There is no hole a kid can poke it’s finger at to realize that’s not true. Or that, that story actually happened. It’s a fun story, like Santa Clause.

Today I was thinking

September 9 I was thinking about how much time I spend giving and just wasting. How much time does it actually take to tell someone you love them? How much time does it take to suck up your pride and apologize? There’s small things we take for granted and many things we don’t appreciate. They can be gone real quick and we’d be spending a lot more time mourning for them. We have to take time and appreciate enjoy so many things before they’re gone.

I Care About Your Understanding

September 5 Today I’m going to rant with a purpose, I hope I can be understanding. I hope you can understand what I’m trying to say as I’m writing this post. Im not the same person I was 5 minutes ago, even seconds ago. I keep processing new ideas in my head. If I say something I’ll get mad after it comes out, that’s not what I would have wanted. I didn’t mean to sound mean or cruel. The tone of my voice changed it, even when I didn’t mean to. I care about what you think I feel towards what you’re trying to tell me. I’m interested but I’m an open book. I have a hard time covering my expressions, I’m sorry I’m not mad, I’m trying to tell myself I shouldn’t be mad. I can be confusing but I’ll answer truthfully. I’m sorry if I bothered you.

The Making of an Essay

September 4 When making an essay, I’ve been taught to follow the hamburger rule, it’s helpful in the way that it gives a skeleton to the essay but it also created a barrier. I can’t go crazy and come back in the way I wish. Freely being able to make an essay is relaxing, there’s no pressure in mandatory steps. But theres also no way of knowing if I had everything that is necessary to make it an essay. I would follow the hamburger skeleton but tweak it to make it my own.

Everything is A Remix

September 3 Remix can mean taken and improved or changed in a way where it’s still the original idea but slightly better. Everyone wins

Big Brother First Impression

September 3 The decline of language has political and economic causes. A man may drink because he thinks he’s a failure but becomes a failure because he’s drinking. This one stuck out to me because I try so hard to not be what I think is stupid and I still become what I work so hard to destroy and it fucked me up because it makes me angry I don’t know what to do with myself but inhale and move on although I don’t want to do that.

Hack to School

August 29 I couldn’t have made it to this day because my mom is a busy woman that I rarely have time to be with and her energy is barely enough to help around and give us a smile. I keep wishing I’m being good to her.

Conscience of a hacker

August 26 In school you’re not useful if you don’t know how to do math or read above grade level. It doesn’t matter if you’re a great artist or musician. In school that isn’t a college where they have your major and you can enjoy not being criticized for not being smart or talented. You “hack” school by listening to teachers, giving teachers what they want unless they ask for “another opinion” but they really just want you to tell them what they believe. When teachers ask you for another option and you give them what you believe they’re repeat it with something they want you to write about. You’re not free to “be yourself” You’re only tested on how much you remembered and not how much you’ve learned. We care more about grades then about knowledge. We think we’re smart because we listen to teachers that don’t let us expand our ideas. When we get pressured with too much work, we think we’re stupid because our grades are dropping and we don’t have time to focus on our mental health. We a...

Getting to know you

August 23 No one knows you because no ones been through what you’ve been. But knowing people in the same class as you is an advantage. You feel comfortable and not judged by what you’re doing. You feel support radiating and backup. I’m sitting with a friend I’ve been with since the beginning of high school and a super supportive cousin that has been with me my whole childhood. Being like this makes me feel calm, although it can be distracting.

Today I asked a question

August 22 There’s always questions, some that no one may answer because they’re pointless, like how was the side walk and the road different, did someone really measure to make sure all the streets were the same size and length, why are people’s bodies made differently, whats the body to decide what gives it acne, what do doctors really know about what they’re diagnosing you, does they even actually love you, how come every grape vine is different or how come some apple trees get more apples if they’re treated the same?? It’s good being curious but not letting it get to you, but search for answers and be satisfied with yourself to proudly say you know how long toenails grow in a week.

You are not entitled to your opinion

August 21 Unless you have evidence to support your opinion then your opinion doesn’t matter, although it shouldn’t matter because an opinion should just be an idea that you believe in. But when you actually think about it if your opinion is credible then it should hold value and would actually be appreciated and you’d have someone listen instead of just saying something because you decided to say something.

I am not? Entitled to my opinion

August 20 Reading this I came to a conclusion that we’re caged to our rights, that they’re limited. These rights restrict us from what we could become and what we can do with ourselves. If you have an opinion someone else is going to have a different opinion then everything is going to get out of hand where no one wants to listen to anyone that isn’t on their side. They feel threatened or  defeated that they’re going to get destroyed by having a different opinion. If someone is entitled to their opinion then their opinion is supported by evidence. Most people want their opinion to be true.

A Second Helping of Socratic Seminar

August 20 Today I took sone notes on our Socratic seminar discussion A right is something each and every person should honor. We must abuse it in the right ways. If you have an opinion it doesn’t matter unless someone understands you. An opinion is the closure to an argument. Having an opinion doesn’t need the other party to feel anything until they acknowledge it You must have evidence to back up your reasoning Loco perenti is important it means in the place of a parent

Investing in Me

October 4 After high school, I should have a small car, something to get me around and a job. I should have a savings account and as soon as possible start a credit card account so I’ll be at a decent age to buy or rent myself an apartment. Save the big bucks in the bank and let the 20s stretch. I might not go to college for the simple fact that I should have the money to let myself do student loans like that.

Communication Strategies of a Hacker

August 27 His use of words help send his message across, the words are pushed in a way that they sound angry and aggressive. He’s also sarcastic like he doesn’t mean what he’s saying and he has a right to that. He’s saying that he shouldn’t be punished by having a free mind or for being curious. He’s strong to put what he believed in.

How I Read

August 29 To try and decipher an authors story takes away the actual meaning. The author can have a good imagination and just like stories with a lot of action, but we as readers always think there is something more. Im a simple girl with a simple mind, i dont like to guess whats going to happen at the end of the movie even if we all know whats going to happen. I like to enjoy and take it in without having to worry. Especially in a good book, that anticipation of not knowing what’s going to happen next is what excites me. I don’t like to know how I’m going to be in the future and I don’t want others to predict what I’m going to be doing either I love the mystery of the ride. Not the destination.

My New Vocabulary

Oct 7 Kudos are given to people who act in loco parentis. It’s not easy to watch over a kid that isn’t yours or who you have no responsibility over. But it is easy to put the kid on top of an incline and slide them right back down. Then do it again because it’s insatiable to your cravings. It’s a myth to say that a kid gets attached to you. I’ve been taking care of one and every time I see them again they act brand new. Their characterization isn’t the best when it comes to favorite teenagers. They go to those uncanny ones that want nothing to do with them.

My essay essay

September 26 It’s hard to find out that the person you’ve been with the longest is actually a stranger. Someone who in reality you don't know anything about. Nathaniel Hawthorne expresses this idea in his story Young Goodman Brown by showing us that reality is altered and not everything is what it seems. The blind eye cant capture everything if seeing is what they're mean to do, what they couldn't capture is still there regardless. In the story we come across an old man, who if you didn't focus on him is just an elder person, but hes much more than seconds away from death. This old man represents our fallen angel, Lucifer.

Read Talk Understand

September 24 When the author is in the room, the discussion seems limited, unless you’re a hard core critic then most of the contributions are positive criticism. You speak good of what the author wrote. Or what the author is saying. When they aren’t in the room is so easy to voice the disgust from the reading. If you found it boring or not. Conversations from “This could use more ...” to “This is boring, I hate it.” To hear things directly from an author can also be very lecturing. You can ask for clarification or if your thinking is too far fetched. Especially if the author understand you and is making a connection. Then having a author and reader connection is like learning from a teacher.

Young Old Good Bad

September 23 Hawthorne purpose for writing Old Goodman Brown was to show how people can be deceiving. His wife's name being faith does not fit her in the way that Brown was demonstrating. To herself faith could be a suiting name, in his case she wasn’t as faithful as her name. The pink ribbons signify purity in the beginning of the story, sort of like young love and that newly marriage love kind of thing. Between the story the ribbons fall and that can signify purity leaving or failing in a way. What he had experienced was merely a fragment of his imagination in my option. His wife had left him with that suspicion of doubt that something bad was going to occur, so he already had thoughts that were accessing his brain. “Poor little faith” he says and his innocence to her allows these wicked thoughts from taking over so easily. The old man can be interpreted as a greater evil or the devil. “The devil screamed an old woman.” And like the devil, the serpent is also a connection made w...

Literature Analysis: Unwind

September 20 In the story, Unwind by Neal Shusterman, we explore a dystopian fiction world where anything the the author writes is law. Conner, an adolescent boy, wanted to have a carefree fun summer when he discovers that he’s about to be unwound. Unwinding only happens to the troubled kids who no one really wants to put up with or that no one wants. But their parts are wanted. Unwound kids get taken in and their limbs are separated from their bodies to help others who need them. Conner, like any teenage boy who has a life ahead of him, runs away to avoid being a donor against his choice. We as readers can criticize the book but have no right to question what the author has been trying to say because it’s fiction, the author can write as many unnatural laws of physics or nature just because. With his story, Shusterman seems like a man who sleeps in late, letting his dreams take over and refusing to let them go. A gentle tea meditation man. Someone who can be a nightmare in their sle...

The first 50 pages

August 30 Unwind by Neil Shusterman takes you on a roller coaster the first 50 pages. You’re introduced to people who recycle kids when they’re misbehaved. We find out one kid can’t let his girlfriend alone and ended up getting dumped by her. We meet a kid who wants to be recycled because that’s what his religion would have wanted.

A Socratic Seminar (pt. 1)

August 19 As people, we accept the love we think we deserve. Everywhere around us we see good people in relationships with questionable creatures. A person who think they don’t deserve the best or happiness they don’t look for someone who can make them smile, they get stuck with someone who doesn’t appreciate them because they think that’s all they should get. Love is international, anyone can feel love if it’s for a person or an object. Someone can go a lifetime without being jealous of someone but loving is different. You can love to make yourself feel worthless, you can love to hurt others. Everyone understands love, if it’s wearing your boyfriends/girlfriends sweater to sniff their scent or that bright smile one gets when they see their favorite animal.  We can’t decide one form or one right way to love and that’s what make it so pleasing. You can love in your own way and have comfort in that. What needs to be understood is that no one is ever gonna love like you do and y...

Right to Your Opinion

August 15 When we’re younger we’re taught that our opinions are based off what the teacher thinks, or your parents beliefs. If you’re mom doesn’t like chicken she’s not gonna cook it and you’re going to grow up not knowing what chicken is. You’re parents beliefs are pushed down onto the kid, but no one says you should have the same views as them. We reach an age where we decide on our own what’s right from wrong and at first it’s not with the best judgement because we were allowed to have our own opinions on things. Once we discovered that we can have a different vie, other views became a threat because then you wouldn’t have been heard. We can’t share opinions because everyone is offended that their view wasn’t appreciated or taken as they wish. As people we can say what ever we chose with the exception that we don’t insult, hurt or damage anyone in anyway. We’re censored with our options we have limited speech. We just have more freedom per say than those who don’t live in the Unit...

Socrotic method

August 15 The Socratic method can be a good idea when students in the class make it welcoming and no one feels belittled by their ideas. The article mentions that it is sometimes used to tear down ideas they hear. Its not a debate and there should be no strong judgement against the others thoughts. There should be acknowledge and if there is disagreement just letting their side be known. With a group full of teenagers its hard because everyone wants to be right. With a class full of nerds no one wants to be told their wrong or embarrassed by something they said. When everyone is accepting it makes the Socratic so much easier because no one is scared of sounding stupid.

WELCOME

August 15 Me llamo Dayanira. That is Spanish for welcome to my blog. This site is intended as a key to Dayanira's Spicy Mind. Don't lose it because I don't have a spare key.
